While I don’t usually delve into the realm of space exploration in my writing, the recent buzz surrounding India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission has been impossible to ignore. As such, I’ve decided to break the tradition and share some thoughts on this remarkable endeavor.

The esteemed Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched an ambitious new endeavor, dubbed Chandrayaan-3, from their base at the Satish Dhawan Space Center located in Sriharikota, India. As of July 14, 2023, this $77 million USD venture is well on its way to the lunar south pole, a territory on the moon still relatively uncharted. This mission represents India’s third venture into lunar exploration.

The anticipated touchdown of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface is expected to take place around August 23 or 24. A successful mission will cement India’s position alongside a select group of nations — namely the United States, the former Soviet Union, and China — that have carried out a successful lunar landing.
